Chiron has two long-established and highly successful programs, the Crisis Response Team (CRT) and our Still Standing equine programs.
Since 1998, the Crisis Response Team (CRT) has provided free, 24/7, 365, on-scene support, information, and referrals to west Los Angeles community members affected by a trauma or serious loss during the initial hours after a critical incident. The CRT is activated directly by public safety personnel and the most typical requests for service are in response to fatal traffic collisions, completed suicide, homicide, death or serious injury of a child, workplace violence, and accidental or sudden death discovered by a family member, friend, or co-worker. Our average response time to arrive on-scene is 20 – 30 minutes, and we usually remain at the scene for 2 – 4 hours. Still Standing, Chiron's equine programs offer an innovative "hands on" approach for front line personnel and their families to explore resilience dynamics. Horses are prey animals, extremely vigilant masters of situational awareness and scene safety. They also follow a clear hierarchy within their ranks and are acutely sensitive to effective leadership tactics, relying almost exclusively on non-verbal communication to determine action.
These core traits are further enhanced by the fact that although they have partnered with humans for over 10,000 years, horses are influenced by congruency and integrity, not by directives alone. Program participants have unlimited potential to explore effective communication, creative problem solving, leadership development, group performance, and resilience skills.
